The remote is a browser page served by the Mac on your local network. It loads no external assets and needs no internet. Every device must be approved on the Mac before any command works; unknown devices are rejected. It's iPhone-first by design, and because it's a plain web page, other modern phone browsers on the same Wi-Fi can open it too.
